This comprehensive tour features the best of "Canada's Last Frontier". Travel the Trans Labrador Highway from Baie Comeau (Kilometer O) to Wabush/Labrador City to Churchill Falls and onto Goosebay. Afterwards, travel to Port Hope Simpson and L'anse au Clair before crossing to the island of Newfoundland.

Visit the northernmost tip of the island and beautiful national parks - including Gros Morne, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn of ancient peoples - the Maritime Archaic, Vikings, and Basques - as you travel to coastal fishing communities to meet the friendly and hospitable people of today. Day 1: Halifax, NS to Campbellton, NB

Start your Labrador adventure in Halifax by meeting your Tour Director and Driver. Travel to Campbellton, NB where you will spend your first night. (D)

Day 2: Campbellton, NB to Baie-Comeau, QC

Travel from Campbellton to Matane, QC where you will board the ferry which will cross the St. Laurence River to Baie Comeau. Enjoy a visit to Garden of the Glaciers where you will soon realize what a huge impact the melting of the last continental glaciers had, some 20,000 years ago. A must to see as you travel through this area of Quebec before travelling to your hotel where you will be staying the night. (B, D)

Day 3: Baie-Comeau, QC to Wabush/Labrador City, NL

Today you will begin at Kilometer 0, Baie Comeau. This is the last town until Fermont and Labrador City (585 Km from here). As you travel along you will see something unreal: the Manic 5 Dam. This dam is the largest of its type in the world and it will keep on growing as you drive towards it! Before arriving at your hotel in Wabush/Labrador City, visit the Gateway Visitor Information Center to learn more about the area you will be visiting. (B, Box L)

Day 4: Wabush/Labrador City, NL to Churchill Falls, NL

Start your day with a tour of the Iron Ore Company of Canada Mine in Labrador City (formally known as the Carol Project). This mine has extracted over 1 billion tones of crude ore since its opening in 1962. After lunch, we start out on the Trans Labrador Highway making our way to Churchill Falls. This grade A gravel road is a freedom highway for people who live in the interior of Labrador. The 250 km. drive gives us time to see the interior terrain. Arrive at your hotel for a one-night stay. Day 5: Churchill Falls, NL to Goose Bay, NL

After breakfast this morning, take a guided tour of the Churchill Falls hydroelectric Power Station. This is the second largest underground power station in the world. The plant has a total of 11 turbines with an overall capacity of 5428 megawatts. From here, we'll be travelling a 290 km. stretch of the Trans Labrador Highway to our final destination for the day, Goose Bay. Check in to your Goose Bay accommodations where we will staying the next two nights. (B, L)

Day 6: Goose Bay, NL

While in the area we travel to the community of North West River. This town was the home of the Hudson Bay Company and the entrance to the trapping industry in Labrador. We will also visit the Labrador Heritage Museum which explores the history of trapping in the area before heading to the Labrador Interpretation Centre. The Centre features the native history of Labrador which offers us an opportunity to explore their past as well as their future in this land. This afternoon we visit the military base here in Goose Bay, 5 Wing Goose Bay where we will take a tour of the base to understand why it was built here and the role the area played in World War Two. Return to your hotel for your final night in Goose Bay. (B, D)

Day 7: Goose Bay, NL to Port Hope Simpson, NL

Travel to Port Hope Simpson via the newest section of the Trans- Labrador highway which opened in 2009. Check into your hotel for a two- night stay. (B, Box L, D)

Optional Tour: Prior to departing for Port Hope Simpson today there will be an opportunity to take to the skies on a *helicopter trip over the Mealy Mountains as well as a first hand look at the coastal landscape of Labrador. This area has been designated by Parks Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to be the next National Park in Canada. *Additional Cost involved

 

Day 8: Port Hope Simpson, NL

Enjoy a day trip to Mary's Harbour where we catch the ferry to Battle Harbour, a National Historic Site. Here you will enjoy a guided cultural tour to learn about the area. This island, which was the capital of the Labrador coastal fishery in the 19th and 20th century, has been completely restored to its original state. Keep those cameras close by as this area is well known to host some massive icebergs. Return to your hotel for the night. (B, L)

Day 9: Port Hope Simpson to L’Anse au Clair

Depart your hotel and travel to L'Anse au Clair. Enjoy a guided cultural tour including Red Bay National Historic Site. Here we visit the recently discovered Whaling Station founded by the Basques in the early 1500's., and learn of the techniques they used as well as the hardships they endured. Later we will visit Point Amour Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in the province. (B, L, D)

Day 10: L'anse au Clair, NL to St. Anthony, NL

Take a 60-minute ferry across the Straits of Belle Isle to St. Barbe, Newfoundland. Travel up the Great Northern Peninsula to L'Anse aux Meadows, National Historic Site, the first cultural discovery in the world to receive recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Hear of the Vikings who walked here over a thousand years ago. Also stop at The Dark Tickle Company Economuseum where a guide takes you along an interpretive trail to a typical Newfoundland bog where wild berries, such as bakeapple, partridge and squash berries, thrive in their native habitat. Afterwards, relish a sampling of products made with local berries. Spend tonight in St. Anthony at the tip of the Peninsula. (B, D)

Day 11: St. Anthony, NL to Cow Head, NL

Enjoy a morning whale watching boat tour in St. Anthony (weather permitting). Your destination is the scenic coastal waters off St. Anthony - Iceberg Alley. This area has the largest concentration of icebergs in Newfoundland and is one of the best locations in North America for whale watching. It is also inhabited by some of nature's most fascinating sea caves and bird life - bald eagles, black guillemots and arctic terns. You will be captivated during a live interpretive program about the area's marine wildlife and unique culture. Travel back down the Great Northern Peninsula to Port aux Choix National Historic Site where you will learn more about some of the earliest settlers to the area. Then on to Cow Head for the next two nights (B, D)

Day 12: Gros Morne National Park

Discover why Gros Morne National Park is truly one of the highlights of your tour. See the Tablelands, visit the Broom Point fishing exhibit and Lobster Cove Lighthouse. Enjoy a scenic boat tour (weather permitting) as you learn the geology of the Tablelands, see the bald eagles that frequent the deep waters of the fjord, and hear the history of the small villages nestled on the shores. It is an unforgettable experience; some say the scenery is unequaled in eastern Canada. (B, L, D)

Day 13: Cow Head, NL to Baddeck, NS

Travel to Port aux Basques for your Marine Atlantic Ferry Crossing to North Sydney, Cape Breton. From here you will be travelling to Baddeck on the beautiful Bras d'or Lake for your final night. (B, D)

Day 14: Baddeck, NS to Halifax, NS

Cross over the Canso causeway traveling via Antigonish and Truro to Halifax, NS where you will bid farewell to your Tour Director and Driver with fond memories of Labrador and Newfoundland. (B)

A non-refundable $200 deposit per person is payable upon booking with the remaining balance due 45 days prior to departure.

Cancellation Terms

In the event of cancellation, the following penalties will apply:

- Between 45 and 31 days prior to departure: 50% of the total tour price will be retained.

- Between 30 days to day of departure and after departure: 100% of the total tour price will be retained.

Cancellation Insurance is available and strongly recommended.
