During this 10-day land experience of Portugal you will travel from Porto to Faro, visiting many unique towns and cities along the way. We take care of the details so you can relax and take in the delightful scenery, unique culture, and fascinating history of Portugal.
We begin in the capital of the north, Porto before beginning our southbound journey, ending in Lisbon. This comprehensive tour also includes visits to places such as Guimarães, Coimbra, Tomar, Fatima, Evora, Algarave, Faro, and more. Along the way you will enjoy the perfect mix between guided tours to learn about important historical and cultural sites and free time to immerse yourself in the local culture. During your tour you will be accompanied by a Local Tour Manager and a Tour Director.

Friday, September 18th - Day 1: Depart Canada
Depart from select Maritime cities (Charlottetown, Halifax, Moncton, or Fredericton) on your overnight flight to Porto. A light meal and breakfast will be served on board the flight.
Saturday, September 19th - Day 2: Arrive in Porto (Dinner)
Arrive in Porto (also called Oporto), located on the Douro River and close to the Atlantic Ocean. Porto is the second largest city in Portugal and is one of the most industrialized districts. It is often referred to as "A capital do norte" (the capital of the north). Meet your Local Tour Manager at the airport and begin with an orientation tour. After the tour we will check in to the hotel. Have time to freshen up before an included welcome dinner at the hotel.
Sunday, September 20th - Day 3: Porto (Breakfast)
Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we will explore Porto with a guided tour. During the tour we will admire the Dom Luis I Bridge, the exterior of the Cathedral and Torre dos Clérigos (Clérigos Tower). We will also have a chance to visit Palácio da Bolsa (Bolsa Palace) with its splendid neo-Arab hall. Following the tour, you can explore Porto at your leisure for the remainder of the day. Lunch and dinner will be on your own (not included) today to try some local cuisine.
Monday, September 21st - Day 4: Porto – Guimarães – Aveiro – Coimbra (Breakfast, Dinner)
Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet your Tour Director. This morning we will check out of the hotel and make our way to Guimarães. Upon arrival enjoy a guided tour of the medieval town. Highlights will include Paço dos Duques (Palace of the Dukes of Bragança), Castelo de Guimarães (Guimarães Castle), and the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira (Church of Our Lady of Oliveira). Following lunch (not included) we will make a stop in Aveiro where you will have free time to explore this picturesque old town full of Art Nouveau buildings. Later, we depart for Coimbra where we will walk through the picturesque streets during a guided panoramic tour. During the tour we will also visit the Ancient Cathedral. Later we check in to the hotel and enjoy an included dinner.
Tuesday, September 22nd - Day 5: Coimbra – Tomar – Batalha – Fatima (Breakfast, Dinner)
Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we check out of the hotel and explore the University of Coimbra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Highlights of your tour will include a visit to the Royal Palace and the Baroque Library. Later we depart for Tomar, known as the city of the Templars. Here we will have a guided tour including entrance to the Convento de Cristo (Convent of Christ) which was founded in 1190 and features the famous Janela do Capitulo and the Ronda dei Templari, la Charola, modelled according to the structure of the Holy Sepulchre. Later, we arrive in Batalha where we will visit the Mosteiro de Santa Maria da Vitória (Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitoria). This gothic monastery is dedicated to the victory of the Portuguese over the Spanish. This evening we arrive in Fatima where we will check in to the hotel and enjoy an included dinner.
Wednesday, September 23rd - Day 6: Fatima – Obidos – Nazaré – Fatima (Breakfast)
Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we depart for the enchanting village of Obidos to admire the Castle and the characteristic white houses covered with bougainvillea and geraniums. We then continue to Nazaré, a beautiful fishing village along the Atlantic Ocean. After free time for lunch (not included) we return to Fatima. The remainder of the day is on your own to explore at your leisure.
Thursday, September 24th - Day 7: Fatima – Evora (Breakfast)
Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we check out of the hotel and continue our journey across Portgual. After lunch (not included) we will reach Evora, the capital of the Alentejo region and a UNESCO World Heritage Centre of Roman origin. This museum-city reached its golden age in the 15th century when it became the residence of the Portuguese kings. Walking through the perfectly preserved historic centre highlights will include the medieval Cathedral, the Roman temple of Diana, and the Igreja de São Francisco (Church of St. Francis) with the creepy Capela dos Ossos (Chapel of the Bones) which is covered and decorated with human bones and skulls. This evening we will check in to the hotel. Tonight you are free to relax at the hotel or continue exploring on your own.
Friday, September 25th - Day 8: Evora – Beja – Algarave – Faro (Breakfast, Dinner)
Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we check out of the hotel and leave for Beja. Beja is known as the “sentinel of the plain” because of the majestic Torre de Menagem, where we see the Castle, the Gate of Evora and the Church of Santo Amar. We continue towards the Algarve region and stop in Lagos for lunch (not included). Later this afternoon we visit the Al-Gharb, or the West, an ancient desert area transformed by the Arabs with the production of almonds, oranges, oleanders and figs during their 500 years of domination. We then reach Ponta de Sagres (Sagres Point), a promontory with breathtaking cliffs and natural caves. Entrance to the Fortaleza Sagres (Sagres Fortress) is included and features Rosa dos Ventos, a giant wind compass, and spectacular views of the ocean. We will also make a brief stop in Albufeira. Finally, we arrive in Faro and check in to our hotel. Enjoy an included dinner this evening and free time to relax or explore on your own.
Saturday, September 26th - Day 9: Faro – Lisbon (Breakfast)
Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we check out of the hotel and enjoy a short panoramic tour of Faro. We then depart for Lisbon. After lunch (not included) we explore the Expo district with a walking tour. Later we will check in to the hotel. This evening is at your leisure to enjoy dinner (not included) and relax at the hotel.
Sunday, September 27th - Day 10: Lisbon (Breakfast, Dinner)
Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. This morning we embark on a morning tour of Lisbon. Highlights of this tour will include the Cathedral (entrance included), the picturesque Alfama district, Praça do Rossio (Rossio Square) and Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square), the lively district of Belém featuring Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument of the Discoveries), the exterior of the Tower of Belém, and the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (Jerónimos Monastery). This afternoon you will have free time for lunch (not included) and to explore the city on your own. This evening enjoy a short drive through Lisbon followed by an included dinner and Fado Show which expresses the true soul of Lisbon. Return to the hotel following the show.
Monday, September 28th - Day 11: Depart for Canada (Breakfast)
Enjoy a complimentary breakfast and meet with your Tour Director. Today we transfer to the airport for flight back to select Maritime cities with many happy memories of our Portugal Grand Tour.

Prices are per person in Canadian Dollars and do not include airfare or transfer to and from the airport at the destination. This is a great option if you would like to purchase your flight using loyalty points (Air Miles, Aeroplan, etc.).
