Halifax NS to Reykjavik, Iceland
This evening, meet Karen Hatcher, your Atlantic Tours Tour Director and travelling companions as you begin your journey to Iceland.

DAY 2: Friday, October 8, 2027
Welcome to Iceland!
You’re an early riser today as you arrive in Iceland! Meet your local guide and driver as your adventure begins. Visit Viking World, where you will learn about their settlement of Iceland and see a replica of a Viking ship. Afterwards, enjoy a tour of Reykjavik, the capital city. Discover the city’s most iconic sights and landmarks including the impressive Hallgrimskirkja Church and the awe-inspiring Harpa Concert Hall. Spend the night in Reykjavik. (Breakfast)
DAY 3: Saturday, October 9, 2027
Golden Circle & South Coast of Iceland
Today, visit some of Iceland’s most historic and stunning sights in just one day. Begin at Þingvellir National Park, where the Icelandic parliament, Alþingi, was founded in 930 AD. See how the earth is slowly pulling apart along the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Continue to the spectacular Gullfoss waterfall (“Golden Falls”), where you can walk close enough to feel the mist on your face. Experience the heat of the geothermal area at Geysir, where Strokkur erupts columns of water into the air every 5–7 minutes. En route to the Skógar area, we visit the picturesque waterfalls of Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 4: Sunday, October 10, 2027
Reynisfjara & Skaftafell
Travel to Vík í Mýrdal, Iceland’s southernmost village, surrounded by dramatic cliffs that are home to thriving birdlife. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of glaciers, black sand beaches, and impressive rock formations. In the Vík area, visit Reynisfjara’s famous black sand beach, with its striking basalt columns rising from the sea. In Skaftafell National Park, enjoy a walk along a glacier trail that forms part of the Melting Glaciers project—a fascinating look at the retreat of Iceland’s glaciers. Spend the night in the Skaftafell area. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 5: Monday, October 11, 2027
Glacier Lagoon & Eastfjords of Iceland
Today, visit the breathtaking Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where massive blocks of ice break off the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier and drift across the lagoon. Nearby, the “Diamond Beach” sparkles as icebergs wash ashore on the black sand. Continue along the dramatic Eastfjords, a region of towering mountains, winding coastlines, and charming fishing villages and your home for the evening. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 6: Tuesday, October 12, 2027
Dettifoss & Lake Mývatn
Journey toward the Lake Mývatn region in northern Iceland. En route, we visit Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall, and explore the Námaskarð geothermal area, known for its bubbling mud pots, steaming fumaroles, and vivid mineral landscapes. This otherworldly region feels like a boiling point of nature, with little vegetation and dramatic geothermal activity. Overnight in the Lake Mývatn area. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 7: Wednesday, October 13, 2027
Lake Mývatn, Goðafoss & Akureyri
This morning, explore the highlights of the Lake Mývatn area, including the geothermal fields of Námaskarð. Enjoy a short walk among the steaming vents, visit the Skútustaðir pseudocraters, and admire the unique lava formations at Dimmuborgir. Also, visit Grjótagjá, a small lava cave once used as a bathing spot, and the Víti crater near Krafla volcano. In the afternoon, stop at the spectacular Goðafoss waterfall (“Waterfall of the Gods”) before arriving in Akureyri for a two-night stay. (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 8: Thursday, October 14, 2027
Akureyri & Whale Watching in Eyjafjörður
Known as the “Capital of North Iceland,” Akureyri is a vibrant center of culture, education, and leisure. Begin the day with a whale watching excursion in Eyjafjörður, one of Iceland’s longest and most scenic fjords—an unforgettable opportunity to see marine life in its natural habitat. In the afternoon, enjoy leisure time in Akureyri. Stroll through the charming town, visit one of the northernmost botanical gardens in the world, or explore Akureyri Church overlooking the town center. The choice is yours! (Breakfast, Dinner)
DAY 9: Friday, October 15, 2027
Skagafjörður & Reykjavik
Today, travel from Akureyri to Reykjavik via the scenic Skagafjörður region, known for its Icelandic horse breeding. Stop at a local horse farm to learn more about this unique breed. Continuing south, pass the hills of Vatnsdalshólar and visit Grábrók crater in Borgarfjörður, which can be ascended via a marked trail for panoramic views. Arrive in Reykjavik for check-in at your centrally located hotel for the last two nights of the tour. (Breakfast)
DAY 10: Saturday, October 16, 2027
Reykjavik at Leisure
Enjoy a day at leisure in Reykjavik, Iceland’s vibrant capital. Despite its relatively small size, the city offers a rich blend of history, culture, and modern attractions. Explore the downtown area, visit one of its fascinating museums, or relax in one of the city’s many geothermal swimming pools. (Breakfast)
DAY 11: Sunday, October 17, 2027
Blue Lagoon & Homeward Bound!
Before your time in Iceland ends, stop at the famous Blue Lagoon for a relaxing geothermal bath in its mineral-rich waters—an unforgettable way to end your Iceland adventure. Afterward, continue to the airport for your return flight home where you will say farewell to your local guide and driver, having experienced many of the Wonders of Iceland! (Breakfast)
